Movement

Movement, we all know it’s important and that we should be doing more of it. Did you know “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine” - Dr Roger Sperry (Noble Prize recipient).

Chiropractic adjustments can help improve or restore the motion to the joints of the spine. This in turn allows more normal motion and function of the spine which may improve mobility, flexibility and endurance.

So what else can you do on an everyday basis to move your spine and stimulate your brain?

I am a firm believer in getting back to basics. We are designed to move and the simplest form is to start with walking. It’s cost effective (free) because you don’t need fancy lycra or any equipment… a decent pair of trainers & comfy clothing… you’re set.

There are many benefits to walking including increased cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness, increased muscle strength & endurance, stronger bones and improved balance. Walking is generally a great way to improve or maintain your overall health.

Now before you start pounding the pavement remember to be kind to your body. Start with small distances if you haven’t moved much as you don’t want to pull up super sore… not very motivating to continue your new movement habit. Work up to 30 minutes a day on most days of the week and you’ll soon feel & see the benefits. Remember to increase your water intake as you increase how much you move.

It cultivates physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing through the regular practice of postures, movement, breath awareness and breathing exercises, relaxation and concentration, self-inquiry and meditation. Yoga is a great way to move your body through stretching, bending and twisting to keep your joints flexible and your muscles strong.
