Cheers it’s Christmas
Tips for mental and physical joy this season!
C - chiropractic appointments.
It’s really important to stay on schedule and get yourself adjusted during this hectic time of year. Each chiropractic adjustment builds on the previous one allowing improved motion and function of the spine. Don’t let dysfunction or pain ruin your Christmas festivities!
H – hydrate
‘Tis the silly season and time to indulge in an alcoholic bevvy (or 10) but don’t forget to drink plenty of water as well. Aim for at least 2 litres/day, more if you are planning an extended drinking session or if Christmas Day ends up being a hot one!
R - rest and digest
With the unrelenting & usually hectic pace during the Christmas season, try to take time after you eat to “rest & digest”. This means no bombies in the pool immediately after lunch; trust me you’ll regret it. Taking the time to “rest & digest” will also turn off your “fight & flight” response if you’re finding the demands of the Christmas period a bit stressful.
I – intention
Christmas is the party to end a year as we prepare to bring in a new year the next week. Is now your time to do some goal setting and work out your intentions for 2022? Goal setting doesn’t have to be a massive undertaking; if it becomes to big you’ll be overwhelmed and give up. Start small then practise reaching the little goals you’ve set before you tackle the bigger changes you want to make.
S – sleep
It’s the time of year for late nights, early starts and general partying so try to prioritise your sleep this silly season. We all know poor sleep can affect your mood, tolerance levels and lead to chronic health issues so getting a decent sleep may improve your overall health and wellbeing. I’ve said before… there is nothing wrong with an extra nap (or two) especially if you’re enjoying some time off over the Christmas break.
T - talk
Use this time to get off your devices and connect. Spend time talking with friends and family or reach out to your community; there are plenty of projects running over the holiday period.
M - move
We are often sitting and standing for extended periods this time of year. It might be sitting at your desk trying to get everything done before the holidays, queuing at the shopping centre or sitting/standing at parties. It’s important to keep your body moving so make sure you stick to your usual exercise schedule. If you don’t have one now is a good time to start!
A - are you ok?
For some of us Christmas is an exciting time, for others it is an emotionally overwhelming and stressful experience. If you know someone may be having a difficult season take the time to connect and ask them if they are ok. If you are personally finding it all a bit much reach out and let someone know you aren’t ok, that you need a shoulder to lean on. S - stand up tall
Have you spent extended periods of time bent over cooking, cleaning or wrapping presents for the big day? Remember your posture this time of year! Stand up tall, imagine your shoulder blades dropping into your back pockets and take some deep breaths! You’ve got this J
